Penny Wise And Pound Foolish ?
Buying solar panels at less than $3.20 a watt may seem like a great deal, but take a closer look and it might just be the biggest mistake you'll ever make !
1. Solar panels that are sold as defective blemished product or "blems" many times will not have a U.L. safety listing which means that in most cases, they will not pass an electrical safety inspection when installed on your home or cabin. In other words they are typically illegal for use in that type of application.
2. In all cases that we are aware of, these blemished non U.L. safety rated panels will not qualify for any of the State and/or utility company cash rebates that are available throughout the U.S. Why buy a defective solar panel that doesn't qualify for a cash rebate with little or no factory warranty and save yourself a $1.00 or so a watt, when you can buy a top of the line solar panel with a 25 year warranty and get a $2.00 to $4.00 a watt cash rebate. In our opinion it simply doesn't make financial sense.
3. Here's a big one, these blemished solar panels will typically come with no factory warranty or a factory warranty of only 90 days to one year as compared to non defective solar panels that typically come with a warranty of 25 years. Some dealers will throw in their own additional warranty in an effort to make the customer feel safer about their purchase, but realize that a dealer warranty is only as good as the financial strength and integrity of the dealer offering the warranty. Just because a dealer claims to have been in business for 10 or 15 years is no guaranty that he'll be there 6 months from now should there be a warranty claim. Warranty failures of just a few dozen solar panels would be enough to bankrupt many solar dealers in this industry. Believe me, many solar dealers have come and gone just in the last 2 or 3 years.
4. You have to question why a manufacturer would only offer a one year warranty when the product should come with a 25 year warranty if the problem with the product is truly only "cosmetic" ?
5. You also have to ask yourself why the manufacturer is producing so many defective panels ? In some cases, even container loads of these defective solar panels are available.
Add it all up and you may come to the conclusion as we did that buying factory defective solar panels simply doesn't add up ! You will never find factory defective products on our website. We offer only top of the line first quality solar panels from manufacturers that do not produce and then dump defective product by the container load on the market.
